The current exhibit at the Arts Center, "Voices of the Virginia Eight", continues to get high marks from residents and tourists alike. Favorite pictures include paintings by Reveille Hamilton and Suzanne Ross, both working with watercolor. Suzanne, who brought the exhibit to Cedar Key, is a favorite at the Arts Center for her watercolor workshops and for "joining in" with the local artists in the Upstairs Gallery. Her advice is always welcomed and makes the Arts Center a true art center.

If you haven`t been to the Island Arts recently it is worth a trip to see Gerry Lindstrom`s latest creation "Eastern Painted Turtles on a Log". Gerry, of course, is a master "bas relief" carver and this particular piece is the result of many, many hours of work. It is on display in Cedar Key for only a short time and can be seen between llam and 4pm at the Island Arts location on "C" Street.

This Monday, Chris Rexroat and Carol Dye will be starting their annual winter series of basket weaving classes. These workshops have become increasingly popular with both beginning and experienced students.

Although this particular class has reached its limited, additional first-time classes may be scheduled if sufficient interest develops. Please call Chris at 543-9191 for information on the scheduling and registration of future classes.

Sandy Allen has had a lot of following with her workshops on mixing colors. As she would say, "You can`t paint if you don`t know about colors". She will finish up her first series of classes this week, however, anyone interested in taking such a workshop with Sandy should call her at 543-6280. Later, in February, Sandy will also hold some one day classes on drawing and watercolor painting.

Suzanne Ross will also offer another watercolor workshop this winter if there is sufficient interest. In March, Grace Stergis will be in Cedar Key to give workshops in pastel painting. Anyone interested in either of these should call Joy at 543-5830.

The opening of the Arts Center`s Second Biennial Juried Exhibit is scheduled for March 5th. Our judge, Dr Rebecca Martin Nagy, has selected 44 paintings for the month-long show. Artists from 15 States, stretching from California to New Hampshire to Florida, are represented. Docents will be needed to proctor the exhibit (no experience required); volunteers may sign up in the Upstairs Gallery on the Event Calendar. The morning session extends from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm and the afternoon session, from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Please indicate your preferences. Call Joy for further information.
