Rock the Boat Art Show Displays New Talent

Jim Hoy

The Cedar Key Arts Center held its annual "Rock the boat Show" opening December 1. The theme of the show is to break out of local artist's usual style. A wide range of entries were judged by Cedar Key artist Willie Smith.

Lois Benninghoff with her winning pieces.

First prize ($100) went to Lois Benninghoff for her three part submission entitled "Archetypes." Each piece combines polymer clay and mixed media.

Birdie, Your House Rocks, by Sue Seyfarth.

Second prize ($50) was awarded to Sue Seyfarth, who built a mosaic entitled "Birdie, Your House Rocks."

Chuch with his "Great Heron."

Third prize ($25) went to Chuck McDonell for his stained glass "Great Heron."

Ed Allen (l.) and Tony Patti skipped the buffet to have a serious discussion.

The opening was attended by many newcomers as well as many long-time participants and supporters of the Cedar Key arts scene. As usual, excellent refreshments and drinks were served. The Arts Center extended special thanks to Judge Willie Smith.
