Poets Entertain at Annual Reading

Poets Entertain at Annual Reading

Editor

Seven members of the Cedar Key Poets gave their annual reading Thursday at the Cedar Key Public Library. The group meets weekly during the winter and spring seasons, made up of many published poets and authors, as well as those who have a love for words and are learning the craft.

The group was initiated many years ago by Bill Stalter, R.D. Levin and Luke Zilles, later joined by a varied group of folks from all walks of life. Over the years, several anthologies have been published by the group. The most recent anthology, published by the Friends of Cedar Key Library in 2006, is available for purchase at the library.

The annual poetry reading is an anticipated event in the library`s program schedule. This year`s event was enjoyed by 30 or so audience members. Readers included group spokesperson Nancy MacMillan (Canada), Evelyn and Graham Duncan (New York), Jackie Johnson (Colorado)and Hedy Havel, Jim Hoy and Teri Brennan, all of Cedar Key.

Hedy Havel's poems often evoke the natural environment of her farm.

Teri Brennan, newest member of the Cedar Key Poets, read her poems with a dramatic flair.

Graham Duncan, well known in the poetry world, has been involved in the poetry group for many years.

Evelyn Duncan's work mixes poignancy with a wry sense of humor.
