ANNOUNCEMENT

Our local Brownie troop has made two afternoon visits to the Cedar Key Arts Center for a gallery tour and a "make-n-take" activity. In January the viewed the "Quilters of North Central Florida & The Fishermen and Women of Cedar Key" exhibit. Using their geometry and visual problem solving skills, the girls pieced a "tulip block" out of felt, played a seek-n-find games, and posed for a picture in front of Beth Davis` fabulous mountain and sunflower quilt. Many of the girls recognized family members in Chris Harkness` photographs. This month, the girls discussed local flora and fauna while viewing Susan Dauphene`s landscapes. Using their problem-solving skills, the girls made choices using a variety of media to paint either horizontal or vertical landscapes. After viewing, Connie Nelson`s work in the Members` Gallery, some girls decided to collage embellishments tinto their landscapes for an added three dimensional effect. Finally, some of the girls viewed their "display case" posters and posed for photographs in front of the mural on second street.

The mural space was generously donated to the CKAC after-school teen art program by Wayne Watson. The design was a collaboration between Zandy Zettler and her daughter, Tessa Paulsen. The students working on the mural are Anna Paulsen, Shea and Abby O`steen, and Angel Minehart. The group has not decided on a title, but the theme is around "kids painting kids painting a mural..."

Students and adults, 12 years old and up are invited to begin the "Alternative Media Class" beginning on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Classes meet in the Arts Center on Thursday at 3:00pm until 4:30pm. New students are asked to fill out a parental permission form and pay a $10.00 materials fee. Returning students are free. During this 6 weeks the projects will include collage, mono-printis, photographic Rayo-gram, and cyanotype.
