The Cedar Key Arts Center has once again turned out a talented group of young artists

The Cedar Key Arts Center has turned out a talented new group of young artists. The summer art program was completed by a group of 38 students ranging in age from 6-17.

This year`s group was comprised of students from as far away as Nevada and New Jersey. The students benefitted from the expert teachings of local artists Amy and Henry Gernhardt, Jay and Donna Bushnell, Virginia Stevenson and Marsha Schwartz with help from Kathy Hudson of Chiefland.

The students were taught mosaics, tie dying, watercolor, drawing, pottery, jewelry, rayograms and photo processing. The 2 week program culminated with an art exhibit on July 27th at the Center with the children proudly displaying all of their fine work for the community. This year the students engaged in community service by tie dying shirts for the Clothe the Children organization and by making soup and salad bowls for Empty Bowls.

The Cedar Key Arts Center provides this wonderful experience to budding young artists each year through the generous contributions of both time and money from the community and the annual public benefit dinner and raffle in February. The directors and this year`s staff would like to thank the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this year`s program a resounding success.

If you would like to share your talent or your time next year or simply become a member of the Arts Center please contact the Center at 352-543-9683 or cedarkeyartscenter.org.
