Commissioner Dennison Updates Tower Project.

Jim Hoy

The ongoing effort to erect a telecommunication tower in Cedar Key is now considering alternative sites to the water tower site just off G Street according to City Commissioner Scott Dennison. Currently three entities, American Tower Corporation (ATC), the City of Cedar Key and the Cedar Key Water and Sewer District are the primary parties in the tower project.

The Water District property on G Street is leased by ATC through 2016, for which the City and Water District share $1200 each month. However, FFA regulations have precipitated consideration of City properties at Third and A Street and a site behind the Cedar Key Marina building on State Highway 24 as tower sites.

A T & T and Verizon are potential renters of space on the ATC tower. Another telecommunication company wants space directly on the water tower, thereby complicating the entire project. Commissioner Dennison appears to be undeterred by the complexity of the effort to provide better cell hone service in Cedar Key.
