CEDAR KEY - The Florida Department of Environmental Protection`s Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve will sponsor a free guided hike on New Years day as part of America`s State Parks First Day Hikes initiative in all 50 states. America`s State Parks First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenated and connected with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1, 2013 at a state park close to home. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with family and friends. Park staff will lead this hike, which will be 1.3 miles through some soft sand and mild terrain. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring drinking water. Dogs are welcome to participate as long as they follow park rules, which include being on a leash (max. 6`), being well-behaved and having an owner clean up after them. For more information, please contact the Waccasassa Bay Preserve office at 352/543-5567 or www.floridastateparks.org. If you require assistance in order to participate in this event, please inform park staff prior to the event.
