At this time of year we thoughtfully review the things for which we are thankful. On Cedar Key we have much for which to be thankful. No hurricanes in the past year must be one of the things. Being surrounded by peaceful water filled with blue crabs, hard clams, oysters, mullet and redfish as alternatives to turkey is a great blessing. Everyone should stop to appreciate the local dolphins and the seasonal white pelicans at this time of year.

Beyond the natural world, we should give thanks for the diverse and active members of our community. The watermen, the artists, the volunteers and public servants all make Cedar Key a fascinating and vibrant place to live.

And, let`s be thankful for the federal funds forthcoming to fix our three bridges. After years of being in the high two hundreds on the state`s bridge repair priority list we are getting the money! Trucks will safely make deliveries to Dock Street. The fire trucks will safely cross the two bridges to the Airport. Boats will no longer dodge falling rebar when passing under the Airport Bridge.

So, let`s be thankful for what we don`t have, hurricanes. And, what we have. And, what we are about to receive, new bridges.
