Cedar Key News: A Progress Report

Cedar Key News: A Progress Report

Editorial

Cedar Key News has been reporting the events in our vicinity for ten months. Because our charter charges us with providing timely and unbiased news, it seems appropriate to give our readers a progress report. And to ask for feedback as we seek nominations and election to our Board of Directors.

To date, we have published 480 articles. We have covered the development of Cedar Key Plantation, the impact of the Governor`s budget on clamming, and several Police Department controversies. We have also run Shark News, news of the art scene, opening of new businesses, interviews of local personalities and a food column featuring seafood. The Cedar Key City Commission and related election developments have been a wellspring of news.

The computer tells us that the Cedar Key News has been visited on-line more than 25,000 times since last September. Some readers look at one or two pages, others peruse five or six pages. (The number of visits per day grows as various search engines find our website.) The counts of visits to each article tell us what is most often read.

The continuing support of our advertisers, the growing number of writers contributing articles and the number of leads on stories provided by alert citizens are marks of our progress. Because Cedar Key News is a non-profit membership organization, staffed by volunteers, we look forward to a hearty response to our upcoming membership drive.
