Parking: Our Biggest Problem?

Parking: Our Biggest Problem?

Editorial

When asked to name the biggest problem that the Cedar Key City Commission has the power to deal with, the current candidates are unanimous that the problem is parking. Boat trailer parking is the exacerbating factor.

Two solutions to the boat trailer congestion were floated at the Candidates Forum on April 25. Filling in part of the Marina area for a parking lot is a solution that would have to overcome high cost. Other hurdles are: availability of space, environmental impacts and the delay in solution of an immediate problem. Off-island trailer parking by a commercial operator, the second proposal, is a solution by way of asking someone else to solve our problem.

Commissioner Paul Oliver has proposed another solution to the boat trailer parking problem. However, his proposal failed to get a second from any of the past Commission members.

Before the voters go to the poll next Tuesday, the Candidates should be asked if they are familiar with the Oliver Parking Plan, and what is their alternative if they do not support it.
