Music for Children

Editorial

Music education in public schools has suffered the legendary Chinese death by a thousands cuts. Yet most people value the music that comes into their lives, with the probable exception of that broadcast from cars that have been converted into mobile boom boxes.

The music that still sounds good and has meaning after many years is like the classics of literature. The school children of today deserve to know the lasting classic pieces of literature and music, if for no other reason than to have a standard by which to judge new pieces.

Cedar Key News is pleased to sponsor, in conjunction with the Quarternote Restaurant, a pilot program of music appreciation for children, starting June 29.

The details of the program will be announced in Cedar Key News in early June. In keeping with the philosophy of Cedar Key News, we will tailor the program according to feedback from our readers in the community. Please send your suggestions to editor@cedarkeynews.com.
