Gold Plating Reality, Reconstruction Chic

Gold Plating Reality, Reconstruction Chic

Editorial

We are on the verge of spending $87,000,000,000 of tax dollars on the reconstruction of Iraq. Eighty-seven billion divided by the 280,000,000 people of the United States is $310 for every man, woman and child in our country. Current events often influence the fashion world.

Cedar Key boasts two jewelry designers in our population of eight hundred. So a new fashion could start here. During World War II women wore their hair in snoods, reflecting the hair protection nets worn by women in the defense factories. More recently, camouflage fabrics were popular. Even QVC has militarily inspired jewelry. Reconstruction Chic could start here.

Gold plated loops of cable as necklaces, charm bracelets with little bulldozers and dangling earring of gold rebar come to mind. Gold trinkets may seem extravagant, but they will reflect current events, and are trivial when compared to $87,000,000,000.

We are just kidding folks. Editorials are not required to be serious. Is three hundred and ten dollars from each of us too much to finish what we started?
