How would you be able to manage a home if you were suddenly transported back a century or so in time? The household collectibles that give us pleasure as decorative objects today were the tools of the trade for the turn-of-the-century homemaker. Though the latest in household efficiency at the time, most of the domestic items represented hard work. For the next several weeks, we will run pictures of several household gadgets. See how many you can identify.

Last week`s gadget was identified as a "plate warmer." Made of iron in early 19th century America, plate warmers sat in front of the fireplace. Stacks of plates were placed on the rack then pushed close to the fire for warming.
