Girl Sharks Set School Record

Jim Hoy

The Shark Girls 4 X 800 meter relay team set a school record and won eighth place medals at the Florida Class 1 A track meet in Gainesville Thursday. Krystal Harvey, Samantha Beckham, Kacey Miller and Rita Borelli carried the baton. Rita Borelli ran the final 800 meter leg of the relay after competing in the individual 800 meter event earlier in the day. Coach Bart Penney said that Borelli held off serious challenges in the last leg of the race. The girls set a school record by finishing in 10:30. Rita Borelli finished in eleventh place in her individual event.

Rita Borelli is a senior, soon to be off to college. However, Krystal Harvey is a ninth grader, Samantha Beckham is a seventh grader, and Kacey Miller is a sixth grader. Furthermore, Rose Myers who will be a sophomore next year, has much experience in distance events and may well join the 4 X 800 team. Coach Penny is "looking forward to next year."
