Incredible Journey Update

Incredible Journey Update

Maureen Landress

Back in July we told you about the amazing journey being undertaken by Joe Kolodziejski, who is canoeing around the United States. We've had the opportunity to visit with him again, and bring you a little more of his story.
This past week Joe returned to Cedar Key, to pull his canoe from the water and take it home for the winter months. His new bride, Cathy Cloud, accompanied him. They were married in a simple ceremony on August 13th in Pensacola Florida. She plans on joining him next year by providing support services. His journey will begin anew in March, when he will be returning once again to our fair city to launch the next leg of his journey. Gracious as always, he took time from his crowded schedule to be interviewed once again.

Q: Now that you have suspended your trip for the winter, what are your plans?

A: We'll be restocking supplies and equipment, and getting a new canoe. I also plan on updating the website, and catching up with people I met along the way.

Q: Will you be getting a different type of canoe?

A: No, I think I will be getting another Winona, it was a great boat, it really took a beating on this trip and held up well.

Q: Do you plan on making any changes to your schedule, equipment or route?

A: Yes, there are several changes we are planning on making. The canoe will be of a lighter construction so I can hopefully make more miles in a day. And Cathy will be along to provide back-up support.

Q: What kind of support services will Cathy be providing?

A: At this point we are looking at her following along in a houseboat. It would mean better sleeping and storage of food and gear. I would also have access to a laptop computer to record my daily experiences.

Q: How far do you hope to travel in the next stage of your trip?

A: We'll be shooting for upper New England, or possibly even Canada.

Q: Have you gotten any corporate sponsorship for your trip yet?

A: No we haven't yet, it's just still us all on our own.
