07 March 1859 - The Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Atsena Otie passed an ordinance to prevent shooting or firing of guns within the limits of the City. The ordinance made it unlawful for any person to shoot, or fire off any gun, pistol, or any description of fire arms within the limits of the City, unless on some festival or other necessary public occasion. For the violation of the provisions of this ordinance, a penalty of one dollar shall be imposed for every first offence, and for the second offence and each succeeding one, which may be committed by the same person, the penalty shall be two dollars. If such person or persons shall refuse to pay, the offender will be committed to the city Lock-up for twelve hours, for each violation.

31 May 1894 - The Suwannee River Transportation Company has purchased a large steamer which is elegantly fitted up for passenger travel. The steamboat has been named Apalachie. It is 140 feet long, has a 28 foot beam, and three decks. The boat far surpasses anything of the kind for passenger accommodations that has ever plied that famous stream.
The vessel has thirty-six elegantly furnished state rooms. The Apalachie`s rate of speed is 10 miles an hour against a strong current. The boat is three years old. It is well put together on steel frames and heavy timbers. The vessel will be put on the river in ten days and will make semi-weekly trips between Branford and Cedar Key.
