28 December 1859 - In an effort to attract new businesses to Cedar Key, the Florida Railroad sent George W. Call, a land agent, to Cedar Key to conduct a railroad land sale. "On Saturday, the 4th day of February, 1860, I will offer at public auction, at Cedar Keys, numerous eligible lots, suitable for warehouses, stores and dwellings, which will be offered on eligible terms, to be made known on the day of the sale," announced Call. "The Florida Railroad is already graded all the way, and the cars are running from Fernandina to within twenty-five miles of Cedar Key, and it is expected that the entire road will be open for business early in February."
