CEDAR KEY WOMAN’S CLUB NEWS

Amy Gernhardt

The Cedar Key Woman`s Club is proud to announce that the fundraising for the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation has been very successful with the help of the Cedar Key community. On May 8 a check for $2000 was presented to Patricia Fabiani, Executive Director for the Fisher House Foundation. The money was raised from a raffle which took place in March at the Annual Fashion Show.

The Gainesville Fisher House will feature a "home away from home" with 20 handicap accessible suites, communal kitchen, laundry facilities, living areas, study area, outdoor garden and playground areas.

The Fisher House is able to accommodate approximately 10,000 guests per year as a refuge to veterans, military members and their families in 52 counties in its North Florida and South Georgia service region. Other clients from around the country may come for specialty services, such as the Brain Trauma Institute.

The Fisher House will be built on property adjacent to the VA Medical Center. The foundation will keep the pantry stocked, replace bedding, provide kitchen utensils, etc.

The CEDAR KEY WOMAN`S CLUB has also been busy lovingly making a king size PATRIOTIC QUILT honoring all the branches of the military. With the help of the staff at the local Capitol City Bank where the quilt was displayed, the ticket sales were GREAT! The raffle for the quilt was also on May 8th at the CKWC`s last luncheon meeting before the summer. The money from the quilt raffle will also be donated to the Gainesville Fisher House Foundation to assist in meeting the continuing needs of the families.

The CEDAR KEY WOMAN`S CLUB is very proud to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, and the Gainesville Fisher House. For more information on how you too can help the programs, please contact Eileen Senecal, Chairwoman for CKWC SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, and Gainesville Fisher House.
