City Commission Candidate Questionnaire Cecil Quates is a candidate for the seat on the City Commission vacated by Larry Williams` resignation. He is running unopposed. One year remains for the term of office. The following are Mr. Quates` answers to the Cedar Key News questionnaire. I. What experiences have you had that make you a good candidate for the City Commission? I have owned my own business for the past eighteen years. I feel that this experience has given me the qualities that are needed to make sound decisions for the Citizens of Cedar Key. In dealing with the public I have learned to listen so that I will be able to hear the people and make decisions that represent their desires. 2. What is the greatest problem the City Commission has the power to solve?
Excessive growth. 3. What is your solution to the problem? Establish restrictions that would discourage excessive growth.

Parking requirement 4. What can the City commission do to minimize the impact of Cedar Key Plantation and similar developments on life in Cedar Key? Work with Levy County to make sure that they insure that any new development addresses the concerns the City has in regard to new growth on coastal properties. I feel that the City should not be responsible for any services outside the City limits.
5. Although the Commission election is nonpartisan, your party affiliation, if any, may tell the voters something of your political philosophy. Please indicate how you are registered to vote, and how long you have been so registered. Republican. I don`t believe in large government, I don`t believe in free handouts, Ii believe public officials should maintain high moral and ethical standards and be accountable for their actions. I have been registered to vote since I was eighteen years old. I was a democrat until two years ago I changed my party preference because of the actions of our last President and the tactics used by my former party (lacking in morals and ethics). 6. What is your strongest conviction with regard to personal political philosophy? Family and Love of Country.
