10 May 1841 - Capt. W.K. Montgomery,Commander of Company "K" of the 8th Infantry and Commander of the post known as Fort Waccasassa made a report of the substance stores and forage on hand at the post. They included: 1,866 lbs. of pork; 280 lbs. of salt beef; 100 lbs. of bacon and ham; 4,000 lbs. of venison; 750 lbs. of flour; 750 lbs. of hard bread; 2,800 lbs. of beans; 1,500 lbs. of rice; 1,600 candles; 250 lbs. of salt; 1,000 lbs. of coffee; 2,600 lbs. of sugar; and 240 bushels of oats. The company had 6,000 musket cartridges. At that time there were 135 men stationed at the post. 80 years ago
11 September 1923 - The regular meeting of the School Board in and for Levy County was held at Bronson, Florida,Tuesday, September 4, 1923. Members present were Chairman, J.L. Williams, T.J. Sheffield, and Walter McElroy. The application presented by Charlie Collins and Burnett Raines to establish a school near Shell Mound was discussed. The Board ordered that a school to be known as "Sea Breeze" should be established near Shell Mound and they appropriated a teachers` salary of $60.00 per month for a period of five months. 54 years ago
07 December 1948 - J.H. Dowling, County Engineer, together with Mr. C.E. Peacock, came before the Levy County Board of County Commissioners and stated that the contract entered into with Peacock and Wise with the Board to build the Orange Hill Cemetery Road had been completed and Mr. Dowling stated to the Board that the work had been performed in accordance with the agreement and he recommended that the Board accept the project. The Commissioners unanimously agreed to accept the project as completed and authorized a county warrant be issued to Peacock and Wise for their services.
