Cedar Key Fishing At It`s Best

Cedar Key Fishing At It`s Best

Capt. Dan Shannon

Now that the weather has warmed up, the water temperature has risen to 72 to 74 degrees F. Thats perfect temp for Redfish and Speckled Trout and Pompano and Mackerel. All 4 species are swarming not too far from the dock now-a-days. I had a run of 8 days of fishing with folks from all over and we really tore `em up. You can ride out about a mile past the keys and hook into schools of Spanish Mackerel and Pompano and on the way back inside stop over 4 to 5 feet of water with a grassy bottom and catch Trout. Then motor over to the edge of one of the many keys and float a shrimp along an oyster bar and battle big Redfish.

This spring fishing season is in full swing and very active. I`m so happy to report the many Pompano we`ve been able to keep. A Pompano has to be 13in. to take home and we`re catching some 15.5 and 16 inches. The flesh of the Pompano is excellent table fare. I`ve been able to have fresh fish for dinner many evenings this spring. Here is a picture of Ed from the Villages Retirement community, close to Leesburg, Fl. holding up a plump Speckled Trout and another pic of Ron, his neighbor, holding a 15.5 inch Pompano.

All my folks are going home with ziplock bags full of fresh fish fillets. I`m like a well oiled fillet machine back at the dock. Folks, while the fishing is hot and the weather is delightful please call me at 352-221-5463 and lets go make our own adventure. check out the pics at inshorefloridafishing.com, thanks, Capt. Dan
