Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. As you all know, this is Halloween week and historically, Halloween has proven to be a time when we think both about safety and how to also have a good time. It is also one of the times in the year that we seem to be the most vulnerable to accidents. You know, I don't think anyone has ever gotten up in the morning and said, I think I'll have an accident today or be victimized by some thief or other criminal. We to go about our business and then all of a sudden realize we're in jeopardy or worse. The purpose of this week's Corner is to nudge you just a little. To get you to think about the Halloween parties your children will be attending. To remember that there will be extra pedestrians out after school and even at night. And definitely, please, think about driving carefully if you and yours go out Trick or Treating. Please, also take the time to check out the candy treasures when you get back home. In the past, we've put out Halloween alerts. We've set up x-ray machines to detect any extras in the candies and fruits our children collect. We've heard of drugs being put into Trick or Treat prizes and we've heard about the rare occasion where someone is actually hurt. Well, let's not take a chance of having an accident but let's have a special and fun time. Fall festivals, Halloween and this time of year are wonderful. So this is just a nudge. Let's be safe. Let's take a little time to think about why accidents happen. This may just help ensure a happy safe season. |
