Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. This may sound odd but I'd like to dedicate this week's Sheriff's Corner to our victims of crime here in Levy County. No, this certainly is not congratulating you for being a victim. But what I do want to say is simply thank you for being such good victims.

What is a good victim you ask? A good victim is a victim that, after all that has happened to them is still capable of giving good and accurate descriptions of suspects. Is able to provide serial numbers and descriptions of items taken. Remembers things that were said. Looked at and remembered tag numbers. A good victim asks questions and makes sure we get them the right answers.

Now, after saying all of the above, let me clarify further. We have experienced victims during the past few years that have been "all of the above". They have remembered the necessary things. They have participated in the prosecution of the people responsible for making them victims and they have worked hard with us to make sure the cases we presented to the State Attorney's Office were prosecutable cases.

Bottom line, we've come in contact with some tough, smart and aggressive victims of crime in spite of the terrible crimes that have been committed against them. These victims have sometimes endured testimony and depositions and the weeks of waiting between these processes.

It's because of your toughness, understanding and cooperation that I wish to thank you and promise you that your Sheriff's Office will continue to be focused on our victims. We will continue to be here for you. If those of you who are currently working with us on your case have any questions please call us, don't wait and please don't ever think you're bothering us. Thank you. As always, if any of you have information on a case, investigation or situation, contact the Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers or us at 1-877-349-8477.
