Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

This week I'd like to talk about some more things that are important to remember during this time of year. As we mentioned last week, shopping will take up much of our social activity for the next few weeks. When we make our purchases and bring the present's home, it's important to remember that thieves and burglars are active.

Therefore, I'd like to add a few things to do to help us be more safe. First try to be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave. Don't display gifts where they can be seen from a window or doorway. Leave lights, the radio or television on so your house appears to be occupied. Be wary of strangers in your neighborhood. Solicitors may actually be looking for vulnerable areas to exploit later.

Another thing we encourage you to do is mark your valuables with an engraver. Put your driver's license number on these items. This will enable us to immediately identify the item marked. We can immediately contact you should we recover the stolen item. We also offer engravers that you can borrow for about a week to get the job done.

You know, many of the crimes that are committed in Levy County are witnessed to some degree. Also people often find out about a crime and who did the crime at a later date. We don't stop investigating cases until all potential leads and information have been checked and evaluated. We depend greatly on Crime Stoppers. You know, you can receive cash rewards up to $ 1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of persons involved in unsolved crimes. You can remain anonymous. To help call 1-877-349-8477. We need your help. Please have a great week.
