Hello everyone and Happy Holidays. I'd like to finish off on senior citizens crime this week. I'd like to give you a number of things to do when you are out and about, especially now at Christmas time when so many are shopping and purse snatchers, pickpockets and thieves are out.

Remember to carry as little cash as possible and carry credit cards in a concealed coat or chest pocket. Purses should be carried close to your body with your hand over the clasp. Please don't wrap the strap around your shoulder or waist. If a purse-snatcher grabbed your purse you could be dragged or roughed up as they tried to run away. If this happens, don't resist. Never leave a purse unattended. If you are carrying packages and purse make sure the purse is next to your body. Try not to carry your wallet in a back or side pocket. Stay aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on who approaches you when out and about.

In closing, I'd like to give you several general tips about those people who are out there trying to get your money. Medical cures, instant cures and remedies, gadgets that relieve pain sometimes do more harm than good. See your doctor for health problems.

Don't send money for mail order insurance. Buy insurance from someone you trust and only what you want and need. Never purchase anything you haven't seen, especially real property. Have your attorney check it out. Be totally aware of what people are saying. Do not be rushed into anything. Ask questions. Obtain a receipt for all transactions. This includes contributions to charitable organizations. Make sure you know where your money is going. Give by check and make it payable to the organization never an individual. Never give your credit card, phone card, social security or bank account number to anyone over the phone. It's illegal for telemarketers to ask for these numbers to verify a prize or gift.

I hope the above helps. I also hope you are never victimized. Do have a great holiday season. Stay safe.
