Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. I have several things I'd like to talk to you about in this Corner.

sheriff

This first item is in the form of a warning. We have had an increase in burglaries during the past several weeks. In fact we had three burglaries in one day in the Bronson/University Oaks area. We learned that one of our victims was away from his home only twenty minutes. In addition to these three we have had several isolated burglaries on separate days. We have very solid suspect information and we are looking for those people. We also increased our presence in these and several other neighborhoods to help develop information. If any of you out there have information, please give us or Crime Stoppers a call at 1-877-349-8477.

Second, if you've come by the Sheriff's Office lately, you've noticed construction everywhere. For those of you who haven't heard, we are being forced to increase the size of our facility. This will include the jail. Currently, we can house 124 inmates if we include administration cells, confinement cells and medical cells. If we have no special condition inmates, our capacity is 114. The addition will give us much additional space and room for 172 inmates, making our total capacity 286. This is extremely important due to the fact that our activity consistently keeps us over crowded. When we are over capacity, we must send inmates to other facilities. Currently, we have 29 relocated inmates. This is a huge expense to the county.

In addition to the jail, our administration facility will be added to. This will enable us to add to our evidence section, records section, investigations and general administration space. I hope you'll come take a look and be a part. And again please remember Crime Stoppers. Take care.
