Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hi everyone. I am happy to report that this week's Sheriff's Corner will be a continuation of last week's Corner. If you remember, I talked about a new increase in burglaries in the Bronson and University Oaks areas.

Since that first report, we have been able to identify the suspects, arrest one of the suspects and recover six weapons. In addition, we have recovered items from all six burglaries thus linking our suspects to the entire six burglaries. We plan to make arrests on the remaining suspects and we feel we will be able to recover more of the stolen items.

One of the reasons I'm so excited and pleased about this investigation is because of the way it was solved. At first when we had three burglaries in one day, we were afforded a vehicle description from several citizens. With this we sent out an alert and stayed in the areas affected. From that point we were given very specific information from a citizen that saw the suspect vehicle and suspects at the last burglary. We forwarded this information to the Gainesville Police Department who was able to come in contact with the vehicle and suspects. They ran from Gainesville Police Department but one of the suspects was captured and arrested. At this point our investigators met with Gainesville Police Department and then the suspect. From this, two search warrants were served in Gainesville and items from the burglaries were recovered. We also learned how some of the items were moved and hidden. Therefore, this investigation will still continue.

I think this is an outstanding story. It shows how working together gets things done. I'm also proud of our investigators, the officers at Gainesville Police Department and you our citizens. Thank you for your involvement.
