Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

sheriff

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. This week's Corner, I'm sad to say, will be the last for several months. I was contacted last week by some of the papers that print this column and told that the column would no longer be printed. At least until the political season is over and the elections are complete.

It was explained to me that the column would be unfair to other candidates in the Sheriff's race if they, the papers, continued to print the Column. The papers indicated that they would have to allow equal space to the others. This is fine with me in regards to the need to be fair. I will, however, miss talking to you. These past few years have been fun and I appreciate the many compliments about and suggestions for our column.

Of course, if you have questions or wish to talk to me or anyone here at the Sheriff's Office please call or come by.

I do plan to continue to send crime trends, advisories and cases to our paper for their consideration. An example of this would be the murder that happened this past week. As you know a U of F student was murdered last week and his body was left in Levy County. Since then two men have been arrested. It should also be noted that the State Attorney's Office, Gainesville Police Department, Levy County Sheriff's Office and Williston Police Department teamed up to make this a very fast, effective and successful investigation. The investigation revealed that the actual murder happened in Gainesville.

So, take care and have a great summer. Also please check out the various candidates carefully and then vote. Your involvement is so important in voting for the right men and women to serve you.
