Hello everyone and welcome back to the Sheriff's Corner. In my last Corner, I had indicated that some of the newspapers that normally carry the Corner were going to discontinue the Corner until politics and then elections were finished. When that happened, I received quite a few phone calls, e-mails and face-to-face comments from people wishing we'd continue. So we will continue and I'll personally take car of the financial side. The intent of the Sheriff's Corner was, is and will be to inform you of what's going on in your Sheriff's Office and county. I feel you need to know crime trends, crime prevention ideas and suggestions. I also hope our information teaches you how not be vulnerable or at least how to be less vulnerable. So, that's what I intend to do now and as the year progresses. In the week we were away, we've continued our efforts with the Gainesville murder. We finished our paperwork that will charge Mr. Pistorino and Sylvestri with Arson and Tampering with evidence and the crime scene. Next, we have been able to move ahead on the vehicle and house burglaries in the University Oaks area and east Bronson. We've made several arrests and anticipate further investigation. At this time, we are gearing up for this years marijuana growing season. We again will be flying and investigating grow sites in Levy County. So growers beware. Lastly next week we'll talk about what we are doing on the domestic terrorism front and what law enforcement and other concerned groups are doing. As always be safe and take care. This column is dedicated to professional law enforcement in and for Levy County – Sheriff Johnny Smith. |
