Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hi and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. I mentioned our on going "4-wheeler" investigation last week. I did not realize at the time; that at that moment, significant things were happening concerning those cases. We have been interviewing suspects in the cases for some time. Recently, we focused on several more suspects that were agreeable to not only talk to us but also take us around to identify locations and previously targeted areas.

What we didn't anticipate was the fact that there were times when we were traveling around that we saw 4-wheelers, mowers and gators that could have been targets. We were told several times by the suspects that they looked for situations that made taking the 4-wheeler or other item less dangerous for them. The ones they pointed out to us were vulnerable.

So, we will be contacting the owners of the vulnerable 4-wheelers to help make their property more secure. If any of you have any questions, give us a call. If your case has been solved, we'll be contacting you.

As I was writing the above report, it occurred to me that we haven't given you up to date crime prevention tips and strategies for some time. I'd like to give you some specific tips that apply to what's happening in Levy County.

If you have any specific questions or needs in this area please contact me or our staff.

Next week I'll catch you up on what is going on with burglaries in our county. Have a good week. Take care.
