Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hi everyone and welcome to this weeks Sheriff's Corner. I'd like to use this weeks Corner to continue to catch you up on our activities of the past several months. Last week I told you about the good progress on the "4 wheeler" investigations. This week I'd like to catch you up on our burglary investigations.

First about the most recent cases. We received some complaints about some burglaries down in the Morriston area. After our investigators got started, they developed several suspects. Part of their follow up included surveillance of the suspects. Then a couple of the items stolen were located. It was determined that we would again watch them and stop them when we saw them moving around.

When this finally happened, the two male suspects were contacted, then interviewed. Both confessed. Actually they confessed to quite a few more burglaries than what we first thought we knew about. We learned that some of the victims these people picked out didn't report the break-ins. Others we're not sure what would be done. In all, 16 (sixteen) burglaries were solved from Dixie County down to Morriston. Marion County is interested also.

At this time we are trying to recover some of the stolen property that included items of clothing, food, TVs and stereos. I'll keep you informed on the progress. You know burglaries are terrible crimes. They absolutely devastate the victims, taking away their feeling of security and privacy. They also are so costly. Insurance goes up and very often the investigations are costly and expensive.

It's important that you do all that you can to protect your house and family from being a victim of burglary. We can help. We can offer our expertise in locks, lighting and exterior security. Give us a call if you have questions.
