Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Sheriff's Corner. I'd like to cover several topics this week. Now that we are fully involved in the holiday season, we are faced with the potential of being victimized in several additional ways. As you know, we have been talking about burglaries. Home security is a large issue during this time of year simply because of the additional targets that are kept in our homes. Targets such as presents and extra cash.

It's important to secure our homes while we're away. Having neighbors who are willing to help watch our homes is a good start. Having good strong solid core or steel doors with deadbolt locks is good also. Using our eyes, ears and experience is the best. Also contacting our agency or police departments when you see something suspicious is extremely important.

Very often we find out that victims and witnesses actually see aspects of crimes happening but don't immediately recognize this activity as criminal. When in doubt or just not sure, call us.

Next, I've learned that some of you are still getting e-mails and even letters telling you that you have won money or there is an opportunity to help a deposed leader recapture his millions. These are fraudulent and the perpetrators have been and are continuing to be arrested. Every time we hear of one of these e-mails and scams, we investigate. We contact the FBI, other Sheriff's Offices, etc. if you get one or are approached contact us and we'll help.

Next week I'll give you an update on what to expect while you are out shopping for the holidays. As always, if you have any questions give us a call. If you have tips, please call Crime Stoppers. Take care and be safe.
