Sheriff`s Corner

Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hello and welcome to the Sheriff's Corner. This week's Corner will again talk about Holiday Season crime prevention and security. This is a wonderful time of year for everyone. But as we see during other times of the year, criminals have also looked at this Holiday Season and have found ways to victimize our citizens.

So, with that in mind let's prepare a little. We all know that criminals want money, jewelry and items that convert easily to money. They also look for items that are popular with drug dealers or users who are looking to buy or trade for drugs. When we go out, for whatever reason, we should show confidence, alertness and a definite purpose. We need to walk, talk and look "in charge." Recent studies have shown that criminals observe potential targets. If the target looks lost, unsure, unaware, etc. they are more apt to be approached. Remember, we want the bad guy to think we're not vulnerable.

Also, try not to wear a lot of jewelry or your best jewelry. Wear comfortable clothing but not your best. When making your purchases be careful to note who is around you watching the transaction. Criminals eyesight and hearing can be very accurate.

Lastly, park in well lighted areas and be very aware as you approach your car. Hopefully, you were able to park fairly close. Please be careful. I hope you are safe and have a great holiday season.
