Levy Co. Sheriff`s Office

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a happy New Year. We're at an exciting time of year for Sheriff's Offices. That is the beginning of a new year and the challenges a new year brings. Last year was very busy for law enforcement in Levy County. In addition, there were state procedural changes and law changes, some of which I'll tell you about in future Corners These changes are designed to help us be more accountable and efficient to the people we serve.

However, as I talked about before the holidays, I'd like to talk to you about law enforcement language. As you know we use "10 codes" and "signals" to talk when working with each other. This is for the most part a universal language used by most levels of law enforcement agencies. I really don't know if the FBI or CIA uses radio codes. The request I had was to clarify some of the abbreviations seen in the papers when we show "most wanteds" and the arrests.

So here are some of the most common you may see:

RWOV - Resisting arrest without violence
DWLSR – Driving while license suspended or revoked
DUI – Driving under the influence
BUI – Boating under the influence
FATE – Fleeing and attempting to elude
NVDL – No valid driver's license
ATNA – Attached tag not assigned
LSOA – Leaving the scene of an accident
L & L – Lewd and lascivious molestation
DV – Domestic violence
WC – Worthless check
VOP – Violation of probation

I'll talk about more next week. I'll also clarify any of the above that are confusing or if you have any questions. As always, if you need anything or have questions please give us a call.
