Former Students Offer Their Support

Former Students Offer Their Support

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor;

This letter is in support of Levy County School Board member candidate Pamela Johnson. Though some of you may not be directly connected to the Levy County schools as a teacher, student or parent, we are sure you would agree that quality education and responsible stewardship of our tax dollars are extremely important to the success of our community. Before we outline why we believe that Mrs. Johnson is the best candidate for the position, we would like to explain how we came to know and support Mrs. Johnson.

We are graduates of the Levy County public school system and former students of Mrs. Johnson, in fact, many of us had classes with Mrs. Johnson all four years of our high school education. We have gone on to pursue and receive college degrees, and several of us are currently in master`s programs. Our fields of study and careers include education, civic service, finance, aeronautics and public relations.

While our interests and work are diverse, each of us credits Mrs. Johnson with having a positive and powerful influence on our high school achievements as well as our current endeavors and success.

We benefited from Mrs. Johnson`s thirty years of classroom experience and commitment to education and extracurricular activities. While under Mrs. Johnson`s instruction, we gained the tools and knowledge needed to pursue and achieve our goals, including administrative skills (e.g. keyboarding, computers, problem-solving), financial management and business communications.

Beyond what we learned in her classes, Mrs. Johnson utilized extracurricular activities such as the student organization the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) to help us hone and apply our skills in public speaking, project management, teamwork and leadership.

However, in addition to these tangible skills, Mrs. Johnson instilled in us the most important and perhaps most difficult lesson to teach. Through her guidance and her example, she taught us to be ethical and professional above all else.

As former students and current members of academia and the workforce, we are confident that Mrs. Johnson`s classroom and leadership experience will translate well to the Levy County School Board. She can relate to our schools` educators and faculty as a former colleague. She understands and is compassionate to student and parent needs. She is knowledgeable and proficient in business management, making her a good steward of our schools` finances and budget.

If you have not had a chance to meet Mrs. Johnson, we encourage you to do so. We are positive that you will quickly learn how she has come to be our teacher, confidant, leader, mentor and friend. You will also understand why we feel so strongly that she embodies the professionalism and caring that the students, parents, educators and community need in our school board.
