Wind Delays Dock Project

Wind Delays Dock Project

Jim Hoy

An early stage of the replacement of the "Big Dock" in Cedar Key began April 24 when soil samples in the construction area were first taken. However, wind and waves interrupted the sampling process April 27. The drilling crew is now awaiting a larger boat for use to go to the drill rig. The purpose of the sampling is to determine the depth of bed rock.

Matt Weldon of the Levy County Parks Department told Cedar Key News that the soil testing is preliminary to seeking bids in early August for the construction of the new dock to replace the one which was damaged beyond repair in 2005. He predicted that the new dock will be finished by January of 2007.
