Forestry Historical Marker Dedicated

Cedar Key Vice Mayor Vanessa Edmunds helping in the dedication of the forest industry historical marker.

Cedar Key's varied and historic connection with forestry was commemorated by placing a marker at Fararway Inn January 9, 2007. Dr. Ed Barnard of the Florida Division of Forestry presided over the ceremony. The Florida Society of American Foresters was instrumental in the project. City county and State officials spoke, as well as Dr. John Andrews who represented the Cedar Key Historical Society. Approximately seventy people attended the ceremony, some of whom then attended a luncheon at the Island Hotel.

Cedar Key Commissioner Vanessa Edmunds represented the city and participated in the unveiling of the marker. The marker is one of a series of historic markers that will be erected around the state to inform the public of the importance of forestry in Florida.
