Hussan Proposes Revision of Commission Agenda Format

Hussan Proposes Revision of Commission Agenda Format

Jim Hoy

Brian Hussan, a recent candidate for a seat on the Cedar Key Commission, proposed a formal and regular item for future Commission meeting agendas at the June 12 Commission meeting. When he addressed the Commission, Hussan cited several legislative bodies that routinely have a time for public comment on issues not on the agenda. He said that the topics addressed would not be things which would require voting, thereby avoiding a need for prior advertisement of the issue. He furthermore suggested a time limit for each speaker, possibly three minutes.

Mayor/Commissioner Paul Oliver replied that City Attorney David Coffey could research the legal aspects of a public comment agenda item. Citizen Nancy Taylor, who sometimes makes comments on Commission business, said that she thinks Hussan's suggestion if a good idea.
