Refuse Removal Rates Raised

Refuse Removal Rates Raised

Jim Hoy

Monthly refuse removal rates will soon increase in Cedar Key. WastePro USA, the company that removes solid waste from Cedar Key's homes and businesses, requested an increase to cover its higher costs. The Cedar Key Commission at its September 4 meeting unanimously approved a Resolution incorporating a 2.7 percent increase in payment to WastePro and a new rate schedule. Also, the Commission passed on first reading an ordinance that formalizes the rate increases. A second reading of the ordinance is required at a later meeting.

The residential service charge will increase from $15 to $16 per month, an increase of 6.6 percent. Low income household rates go from $5 to $6 per month. Increases for businesses and residences outside the City Limits are as little as 2.8 percent. The new rate schedule was established by City Attorney David Coffey's office according to a source in City Hall.
