Ethel G. Tonge of Chiefland died December 23, 2007 in Gainesville. She was 99 years old. Mrs. Tonge was born in Parsons, WV, and she had been a resident of this area for many years. She was a retired nurse's aide. She is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Hiers of Chiefland, Kitty (Shi) Smith of Melrose, Carolyn (Gary) Near of Washington; brother, Lester Shoemaker of Blakely, GA. She is also survived by eight grandchildreN: Janet Reiles, Cross City, Don Johnson, Lincolnton, NC, Debbie Barnard, Pensacola, Derek Near, Seattle, WA, Jimmy Cole, Chiefland, Kelly Perry, San Diego, CA, Cindy Sibley, Starke, Clint Hiers, Chiefland, and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Swindle Tonge, grandson David Johnson, sister Virginia Dilly and brothers Glen Shoemaker and Troy Shoemaker. Funeral services will take place Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Chiefland with Rev. Bob Block officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the care of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1301 N. Young Blvd., Chiefland. |
