On August 29, 2008, surrounded by loved ones, Lucille Alice (Dumont) Andrews, 66, of Cedar Key, Florida passed away after a short illness at Shands Medical Center, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Born June 27, 1942 in Berlin, New Hampshire, the first-born daughter of Roland and Florine Bertram Dumont,she graduated from Notre Dame High School in Berlin in 1960. She graduated as an RN at St. Louis Hospital in Berlin. Her nursing career of which she was very proud took her first to Hollywood, Florida, then to Gainesville where she worked at the Veterans`Hospital, Shands and finally North Florida Regional Hospital, where she met her husband Dr. John Andrews. She was a dedicated and compassionate nurse and caregiver and following retirement cared for her husband's elderly mother in their home for several years. In 2001 Lucille and John moved to Cedar Key which she came to love. She became much involved in the Cedar Key Historical Society and Museum where she and her best friend Jackie Padgett contributed innumerable hours helping to keep things running smoothly and promoting the Museum. She also became active in other aspects of the community with membership in the Woman's and Garden Clubs. She attended most city commission meetings and served on committees for the city. She was a member and attended regularly St. John's Catholic Church in Chiefland. However she also attended Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key with her husband and helped with church functions there. She was introduced to and greatly enjoyed fishing with her husband for a number of years. Later she got busy with other things and just enjoyed hearing his fishing stories. However, she became an avid Gator fan and attended many Gator football and basketball games with him and her step-daughters.
Lucille grew up in a devout catholic family and had a very strong Catholic Christian faith. She was a member of St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church in Chiefland. While living in Gainesville she was a faithful member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church there. She was also proud of her French-Canadian heritage but was equally proud of adopting her husband's southern heritage and learned to speak French with a southern accent. She also enjoyed cooking and loved making old French-Canadian recipes learned from her childhood. She learned southern cooking as well but never learned to like grits. Lucille is survived her husband Dr. John Andrews; her mother Florine Dumont of Manchester, NH; 2 sisters, Mrs. Simone Routhier of Laconia, NH and Mrs. Louise Deshaies of Hooksett, NH; a brother, Roger Dumont of Quincy, Massachusetts. She is also survived by step-daughters Jennie Bryan of Louisville, Kentucky; Debbie Warden of Gainesville; Georgia and Vivian Graham and step-granddaughter Kelley Graham of Gainesville, Florida. In addition she is survived by 4 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key on Friday, September 5th at 11 A.M. followed by a graveside service at the Cedar Key Cemetery. Her family will receive family and friends at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in Chiefland from 5 to 7 P.M. on Thursday September 4th.
