Daisy Frances Tewmey Freeman 1934-2011

Obituary

Daisy Frances Tewmey Freeman of Cedar Key died Sunday, February 20, 2011 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was 77 years old.

Born March 24, 1934 in Harrodsburg, KY to Laura and Garnett Tewmey, sister to Irma and James Lloyd Tewmey, Daisy Tewmey married her childhood sweetheart, Nolen W. Freeman, on February 17, 1951 in Harrodsburg, KY. The couple enjoyed over 60 years of devoted marriage to each other.

After their marriage, the Freemans lived in several cities as Mr. Freeman built a career in law enforcement. While he was with the Kentucky State Police, they lived in Alexandria, KY. They moved to Lexington, KY, where he was Chief of the Lexington Police Department.

Later, he became Chief of Police in Gainesville, FL.
For the past 20 years, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman have lived in Cedar Key.

Devoted to her husband, family and friends, Daisy was well-known and loved in all of the communities in which she lived. A strong, yet quiet, presence to her family and friends, she never had a negative thing to say of anyone. She lived a life of varied interests that included figure skating, cycling and archery (where she was the U.S. Eastern Division Field Archery champion).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and James Garnett Tewmey, her sisters Besse and Irma, and son James Anthony.

Mrs. Freeman is survived by her husband of sixty years, Nolen W. Freeman of Cedar Key; four sons: Nolen W. II (Lexington, KY), William A. (Grinnell, IA), David Joseph (Falmouth, KY) and Eric Scott (Georgetown, KY), loving daughters-in-law, Susan Freeman (Georgetown, KY) and Evelyn Freeman (Grinnell, IA); eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned for the near future in Cedar Key.
