Obituary

Mary Ann Delaino, age 94, beloved citizen of Cedar Key, Florida, passed away peacefully in her Home on Friday, August 3, 2012. As a mother, teacher and friend, she touched the lives of all who knew her. She was born in Madison, Florida on November 11, 1917. She graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1937. She later received her Master`s Degree in Library Science from the University of Florida.

Mary Ann taught one year in Lee, Florida. She moved to Cedar Key in 1938, where she taught English for 30 years and then worked in the Cedar Key School Library and libraries in several other Schools in Levy County. In 1988 the Cedar Key School Library was named in her honor.

Mary Ann married Bill Delaino, a commercial fisherman in 1939. She was very active in the Cedar Key United Methodist Church as pianist, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the United Methodist Women`s Society. She was a founding member of the Cedar Key Woman`s Club, Historical Society and the Garden Club. Mary Ann loved traveling, cooking wonderful meals and visiting with friends and family in her home.

Mrs. Delaino is survived by her two sons, Bill ( Peggy) Delaino, Jr. and Tom (Frances Carroll ) Delaino, her brother Tom ( Shirley ) Owens, six grandchildren: Gina ( Randy ) Stamp, Tommy ( Lacy ) Delaino, Russell ( Bonnie ) Delaino, Bill Delaino, E.J. Delaino, Lee Ann ( Lisa ) Delaino-Burke, seven great grandchildren: Stefany, Russ, Cole, Will, Grant, T.J. , Lane and a wonderful extended family of in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Delaino was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Delaino , Sr., her mother Lyde Moore Owens, father L. E. Moore, sisters Hazel Moore Walden and Frances Owens Scruggs, brothers Eliot Moore and Jim Owens.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 at 11:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Cedar Key, Florida followed by interment at the Cedar Key Cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the Cedar Key Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cedar Key Methodist Church, PO Box 338 Cedar Key, Florida 32625.
