On Saturday, February 24 at 1:30 p.m., Friends and Volunteers of Refuges (FAVOR) along with the staff of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge invites everyone to attend this interesting and fun-filled event. The Open House will be held at the Refuge Headquarters off of CR347 between Fowlers Bluff and Cedar Key. There will be hayrides with a naturalist narrative; a river walk focusing on bird and plant identification; a talk about the life cycle and importance of bats capped off with a visit to one of the Refuge bat houses; the importance of prescribed burns along with a demonstration of the techniques for conducting these burns. Visitors will hear about how important the National Wildlife Refuge system is to all of us by preserving open land and restoring habitats to encourage our native plants and animals. FAVOR will announce its planned activities and events for the rest of the year, and the refuge staff and members of the FAVOR group will be present. Come and learn how you can enjoy YOUR Refuge. |
