Having a passion for a particular place, lovely bird songs, a quiet pond, stirs in most of us the drive to share, to bring others to this part of the Earth that is so precious. The Friends of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge plan to do that very thing - share the Refuge and the songs of its winged-ones with the visually impaired.
Monday, May 16th, the Friends of the Lower Suwannee Refuge will host a birding walk for visually impaired individuals. We`ll meet at 8:00 a.m. at the River Trail parking area located off CR 347, just south of Fowlers Bluff. Turn at the Lower Suwannee Refuge "River Trail and Offices" sign; the trail is a quarter mile down on the right.
Bring a friend or family member for this special event. There will be Refuge staff, members from the Friends Group and co-hosts, Lions Clubs to provide assistance as well.
Jerry Krummrich of Lake City will lead the walk. Jerry worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission for 34 years. He has had a love for birding since he was a child. On the walk, Jerry will identify the birds by their melodic songs and provide descriptions of the birds, and their habits. As he says, his goal will be "to add joy to lives of people who cannot see the birds."
