Goodbye, Mrs. Ice!

Goodbye, Mrs. Ice!

Chloe Reynolds - Cedar Key School Correspondent

At the end of the school year, Cedar Key School will be losing one of their most valued people: Principal Sue Ice. Mrs. Ice has been teaching for 18 years and supervising as principal for 6 years.

After retiring her plans include: "Traveling, reading more, riding my bike, exercising, fishing, gardening, more travel, golf, spending time with family, and more travel." However, what she will miss the most is the feeling of joy she gets when she sees students get motivated and engaged in learning and excelling when they work hard. Also, "The fact that it is K-12 and small gives it a unique family feeling and allows for real connections between faculty, staff, and students. It also allows for individual attention to each student which is what makes this school special."

Mrs. Ice later commented about her favorite part of being with the school; she said, "Working with the professional faculty and staff to go above and beyond to ensure the success of our students and support each other and seeing the "light bulb" go on when a student embraces new knowledge."

Some of Mrs. Ice`s special memories about Cedar Key School are hearing her young students learn to read and when her own children were here. "I feel blessed that my children received their education at CKS."

Another fond CKS memory is the day that "Ms. Linda, while apologizing, brought me two students for discipline on a Friday afternoon. When I went into my office it was actually Ms.Patty and Ms. Sue dressed as "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" for literacy week. They were jumping around my office and Ms. Patty was on top of my desk. It was hilarious!"
