Did you hear the one about... The two comedians who “killed” on Dock Street ?

Well, not literally. However, a sold out crowd of 60 (mostly local residents) enjoyed the stand up of LA comedians Jay Hewlett and Laura Hayden at the Black Dog Bar and Tables Saturday night and may all find themselves on TV sooner than later.

The business is owned by Connie and Jay Edge and managed by their black dog, Otis - who was not present for the show. Not sure if a doctor was in the house, but the two kept the audience in stitches for most of their monologues.

Jay Edge said that they were "overwhelmed with positive responses" for the event and they are considering hosting similar events at the Black Dog on a more frequent basis, adding, "it was nice to see people that we don`t see regularly."

Laura Hayden

Both Hayden and Hewlett expressed an instant affinity for the laid back vibe of our little island and the entire show was filmed for the proposed "RoadkillsTV" show. In the tradition of stand-up comedy acts, Hewlett drafted three audience members to join him onstage for a rendition of YMCA at the end of his act.

"RoadKillsTV" is the brainchild of Hewlett and his Cordon Bleu trained chef and brother, Bill. They are currently filming 7 shows that they hope will be picked up for production by a network. They are traveling the country in search of good humor and good food. While in Cedar Key they went out on a clam lease and prepared clams as part of the cooking segment for the Cedar Key show.

Their website explains the reason for the name "RoadKillsTV":

"The name comes from two expressions: When a comic works a gig and everyone laughs hysterically, he has "killed" the room. Traveling comics also tend to eat on the "road" in hotels and dives. Add to that the notion that some greasy spoon food could be considered "Road Kill" and you have the genesis for the show name."
