Stormy Fishing

Stormy Fishing

Capt. Dan Shannon

If you`ve been in Florida this past month, you know how the weather has effected the boating/fishing community. The few times I`ve been able to get out, a storm has chased us into a safe spot to wait it out.

I had 6 men from central Florida onboard the first week of August and we were catching trout next to Seahorse Key when we looked up and saw the sky had darkened and the wind pick up and a true downpour soaked us all.

We made a run for the dock at Seahorse Key and waited a full hour before we could venture back out.

Last Saturday the 11th the Courtright family from Texas came out with me and we almost made the entire 4 hour trip before another storm chased us in. We were motoring to our last stop when the wind got real cool very quickly.

The surface of the water became choppy and the skies were darkening. It was unaminous that we should get back to the dock fast. We didn`t make it without a shower soaking everything.

I have a trip tomorow August 14th and the weather looks a little better. I hope it holds off raining till after our trip.

In the pictures are Justin Courtright holding a wiggly 18in. trout, and his nephew Kevin with a 17incher. The speckled trout are still biting real good out over the shallow flats and redfish are showing up in greater numbers in the warm, 85 to 88 degree water.

There are a lot of fish swarming around the Cedar Keys right now so give me a call and lets go get `em. Visit my website at:

and check out the pictures, and then call me at 352-221-5463 to schedule your trip. thanks, Capt. Dan
