Fire Safety Awareness Day comes to Cedar Key School

Fire Safety Awareness Day comes to Cedar Key School

Ada Lang

Last week, the kindergarden, first and second grade classes were treated to a fun learning experience about how to stay safe - while wearing fire-fighter hats, of course.

Two fire trucks, an ambulance and two Police vehicles pulled into the school yard and the men and women in uniforms helped the little ones understand important things such as, keeping batteries in their smoke detectors, what a fire man looks like in full gear (so that they won`t be scared and hide from him), what it feels like to hold the working end of a fire hose and more. They also got a tour of the state of the art ambulance that serves our part of the county.

Fire Chief Robinson made sure they all have emergency escape plans with their families and explained the importance of getting out a burning house immediately and letting the firemen save pets or others who might still be inside.

The Chief, along with Police Chief Sandlin, Officer John McMullen and several of the volunteer fire fighters took the time away from their busy days to make sure that the kids know what to do but hopefully will never have to practice what they learned.
