Levy County Visitors Bureau

VISIT FLORIDA Welcome Center Service Staff Employees visit Levy County and Cedar Key as part of a familiarization tour (FAM) November 1 & 2, 2012. This is the first time in several years VISIT FLORIDA has arranged for the Welcome Center Service Staff to participate in a FAM in an effort to give their employees a deeper understanding and knowledge of Florida and what new areas they are visiting have to offer the visitor coming into the state.

This visiting group of 13 employees are the front line people visitors meets when they walk into the welcome centers. The VISIT FLORIDA Service Staff stand ready at the Welcome Center counters to give direction, suggestions and help the visitor with anything they can to make their vacation or business trip the best.

The welcome center workers will have traveled throughout the state to experience areas they have never been to before. Visiting Levy County provides them with a better understanding of our county so they go back to their Welcome Center s and recommend to visitors what we have to offer and "why" it would be a wonderful place to plan their vacation.

The Levy County Visitors Bureau Director, Carol McQueen was contacted by VISIT FLORIDA to arrange their accommodations, dinner and activities. The FAM was made possible by the following businesses providing complimentary accommodations to the Visit Florida group; Low-Key Hideaway Motel and Tiki Bar-Pat & Cindy Bonish, Natures Landing Condos-Tina Ryan, Island Place of Cedar Key-Pam Oakley, Cedar Cove Beach and Yatch Club-Peter & Gina Stefani.Chef Peter Stefani for dinner at the Island Room Restaurant and Ken Young, President and George Sresovich of the Cedar Key Historical Society Museum who graciously offered to provide a complimentary private tour (after hours) for the group on Thursday evening. Connie O`Dell of Captain Doug`s Tidewater Tours provided a complimentary 2 hour Island Tour for the entire group on Friday morning.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Levy County to showcase itself to the VISIT FLORIDA Welcome Center staff. Director McQueen was very excited VISIT FLORIDA made plans to visit and is especially thankful for the warm and friendly responses she received from all who participated in the FAM. She said it is always a group effort to make a FAM a true success. McQueen has conducted numerous FAM`s throughout Levy County over the past six years. These tours consist of journalist and travel writers she brings in to visit Levy County.

After these FAM tour the participants write about their experiences which are then published in magazines, newspapers and periodicals throughout the US and some international publications.
